Fellowship Fund for Historical Cartography

This fellowship has been made possible by the Historical Cartography Fund and aims to promote research activities for the benefit of the Allard Pierson collection of Maps and Atlases.

The fellow will spend several months researching a Dutch cartographer from the 16th to the 19th century: Cornelis Claesz, the Visscher family, the Ottens family, the Schenk family or Evert Maaskamp. In the research, the cartographer is placed in their historical and biographical context. Furthermore, the vast majority of the research consists of writing brief and concise accompanying texts to the visual material of the cartographers. This research must result in a publication, written for a broad audience. The publication will be published in the series Kaarthistorie at WBOOKS.
