Reading Room

You will need a student or staff member’s card from the UvA or HvA, or a library reference card, to view material in one of the research halls. You can arrange this at the information desk of the UB Singel, Singel 425, first floor or online.

The Reading Room is closed on Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day and the following Friday, King’s Day, Liberation Day, Whit Monday and on Christmas Holidays.

Public transport

From Central Station by tram 4 14 (alight at Spui), and by metro 52 (Rokin Station).

By car

Parking is available at a number of carparks in the vicinity of the Allard Pierson: Rokin carpark (Rokin 67), Kalverstraat carpark (Kalverstraatsingel 451C), Bijenkorf carpark (Beursstraat 15) and Muziektheater carpark (Waterlooplein 28). If you are arriving from Wibautstraat/Weesperstraat or the IJ Tunnel, the easiest is Muziektheater carpark. Then it’s a five-minute walk via Staalstraat, one of Amsterdam‘s most attractive little streets, to the Oude Turfmarkt. If you are arriving from a westerly direction, the carpark on Singel, opposite the Flower Market, is also an option. You are then close to Munt, two minutes on foot from the Allard Pierson.

Loading and unloading

Loading and unloading are permitted up to 11 am on the Oude Turfmarkt. After 11 am loading and unloading must be notified in advance.

Applications for a guided tour can be made up to at least two weeks before your visit – via booking@allardpierson.nl. Prices for tours are exclusive of entrance ticket prices.
