Projects

The Allard Pierson will carry out provenance research on its archaeological collections in the near future. The initial focus will be on archaeological objects acquired after 1970 (the year of the UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property). For this research, the Allard Pierson aims to list and describe the various collectors, dealers and auction houses associated with archaeological collections. The intern will collaborate in the research and will help to make an inventory of and collect information about these collectors, dealers and auction houses, both inside and outside the Allard Pierson, in archives and professional literature. This information ultimately forms the starting point of the preparation for deeper provenance research on individual objects.

At the same time, the Allard Pierson is working on its acquisition policy for archaeological objects. The UNESCO 1970 Convention, but also other international treaties and the Dutch Heritage Act play an important role in this. The intern contributes to the development of issues surrounding the new acquisition policy. In addition to these projects, the intern assists with ongoing work within the Archaeology Department.
