Allard Pierson Provenance Fellow
As the Allard Pierson Fellow of Provenance Research, I will be conducting research on the provenance histories of all Spartan and Lakonian objects in the Allard Pierson’s collection. I will be working closely with the head of provenance research and the curators of the archaeological collections, in order to contribute to the implementation of provenance information and narratives to the museum’s permanent display, as well as contribute to research and curation of a future exhibition on the topic of the illicit trade in antiquities. I will also help lay the foundation for future collaboration agreements with the ministries of culture of relevant source countries of the collection, particularly Greece. In the 21st century, taking responsibility for the objects in the Allard Pierson’s care opens up new possibilities for deepening scholarly knowledge, facilitating international collaboration, as well as presenting a new ethical approach to acquisitions.
