Museum reopens on 5 June
The exhibition Goddesses of Art Nouveau opens immediately on 5 June. This is the first exhibition in the Netherlands devoted to the fascination for the female form in art nouveau. Around the year 1900 she was the dream and the nightmare of a generation of artists who were trying to escape reality. Works by René Lalique, Alphonse Mucha, Edvard Munch, Jan Toorop, Aubrey Beardsley and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec are on display in the exhibition alongside numerous other designs by leading international artists. A separate galley features female painters, photographers, ceramists and textile artists active within Art Nouveau, among them Estelle Sylvia Pankhurst and Wilhelmina Drupsteen. Goddesses of Art Nouveau is on show until 29 August 2021.
In the permanent presentation From the Nile to the Amstel, you can travel across 10,000 years of cultural history. From Assyrian merchants to theatre makers in the creative city of Amsterdam. There’s also lots for children to see and do in this exhibition, including a variety of treasure hunts.
At present it is only possible to book tickets online on the ticket page. Various timed visits are possible. Payment by card only in the museum and museum shop.
